Who We Are

Overland Container Transportation Services was founded in 1989 with the goal of providing Alberta with safe and reliable container transportation services. Decades later we continue to provide these core services while expanding our commitment to the industry through container repair, storage, warehousing and transloading. We are authorized to operate from both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific terminals in both Calgary and Edmonton.

Our area of operation has expanded to include Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and Northwest Territories. OCTS is one of the largest container drayage providers in Alberta, and we are proud to be the “last mile” for some of the worlds most prominent steamship lines and freight companies.

OCTS is committed to the health and safety of our workers and to providing a safe workplace where no one suffers from injuries or illness. We firmly believe that no activity in our operation is more important than ensuring the safety of our workers, clients, equipment, the general public and our environment from loss or injury caused by accidents, unsafe acts or conditions.

ESG initatives

OCTS established an ESG Committee in May 2023 to work on the Environmental, Social and Governance areas within the company. This committee meets monthly to discuss ongoing and future opportunities in each of these areas. Among some of the first initiatives the committee was responsible for include: reduction of disposable and paper waste, volunteerism within the community, and improvement of inter-office communication.

To do this, the committee stocked the kitchen with dishes, cutlery and glassware replacing disposable cutlery and plates; and installed a water cooler and cabinet in the boardroom to replace disposable water bottles. In efforts to reduce paper waste, the committee created a Paperless Process training document that was distributed across to all employees on how to perform tasks paperless. A commingled recycling bin as well as small individual office recycling bins were brought into our yard and offices to encourage recycling. A community ambassador program was initiated where we send 10% of staff quarterly to different volunteer opportunities around the community. Our first community event included filling backpacks for back to school at United Way and serving lunch at Hope Mission. A newsletter for staff communication was created that is distributed quarterly to all staff communicating news company-wide.

One of our larger ongoing projects relates to idle time and fuel consumption on our trucks. Preliminary data collection is underway utilizing our GPS tracking system information to establish and analyze baseline metrics of our current idle time. In addition, we plan to analyze the benefit of using new technology that some of our trucks are already using, to reduce idle time and fuel consumption with the goal of expanding throughout our fleet ultimately reducing our carbon footprint.
